S&C Apologizes to Bankruptcy Court for AI-Hallucinated Citations in Court Filing
Sullivan & CromwellAndrew Dietderich, co-head of Sullivan & Cromwell's global restructuring practice, sent a five-page apology letter to Chief Judge Martin Glenn of the SDNY Bankruptcy Court admitting a filing in the Prince Group matter contained roughly 40 AI-generated errors, including fabricated case citations. Dietderich disclosed that the firm's existing AI-use policies and citation-review processes were not followed, and the incident became a widely covered BigLaw governance case study on AI policy versus practice.
