Why this matters
This firm has made a tracked AI move, with Harvey AI in the stack. A meaningful marker of where the firm's capability is heading.
At Mitratech Interact 2026, Plains' vice president of law for M&A said she wants to know when outside counsel uses AI and that her lawyers train outside counsel on deal-specific provisions, though the outside counsel guideline language is still a work in progress. Plains uses Harvey to build tables from data-room documents. On the same panel a Holland & Knight partner described a 30-hour AI comparison of 40 credit agreements whose marginal benefit she judged not worth the cost, and the moderator cited an AdvanceLaw survey of a couple dozen general counsel in which nearly nine in ten expected AI savings on bills.
