Cargill legal eliminates outside counsel need for patent work using AI-enabled tools

Cargill's legal department used AI-enabled tools with its patent database to file office actions faster, draft patents, and review inventions more efficiently — ultimately eliminating the team's need for outside counsel on that work entirely, freeing budget for internal investment. Part of a broader 'AI dividend' initiative across Cargill's legal function, described by CLO Rishi Varma at Priori's FlexFest conference.

""The presumption that I always pressure test with them is sort of that first capacity constraint reflex is to go and get outside counsel because this is a new question or a complex question." — Rishi Varma, Chief Legal, Compliance and Corporate Affairs Officer, Cargill"
