Weil will place a select group of first-year law students in a 10-week 1L summer role with its LASER (Lawyer Augmented Solutions Engineering and Research) team, where they learn Python, build a neural network and help develop legal software, then return in the 2028 2L summer class. Applications opened Oct 15; the first cohort joins in summer 2027. Why it matters: a recruiting and development model that treats AI literacy as an entry-level credential.
""The goal isn't to turn them into software engineers, but to help them become lawyers who understand AI well enough to ask better questions, recognize opportunities and work effectively with people who bring different expertise to a problem." - Andrew Simon, Chief AI & Innovation Officer, Weil"
